I'm only half way through this picture. I thought I'd put it in the blog anyway....as I have a tendency to ruin pictures in the later stages!

18th December. I'm trying to use more clear, chunky brush strokes in these two paintings.

Here are a few portraits that I've been working on in the last two weeks. Please left click in the pictures to enlarge them....they look much better!

Chika, I painted this Japanese lady on an old board of mine.

Eliza, a pastel portrait

Amy, in oils.

Sue, this painting looks a little bleached out due to shine on the wet paint. It's a real joy to paint an interesting 'character' face.

Tuesday 19 November 2013

I'm starting a new post today, 19th November, as my last post covered a couple of years worth of paintings...So here I go again, all new and refreshed after a fabulous painting weekend with Andrew James teaching portraits. Left click pictures to see them enlarged.

A quick demo to get us all fired up and ready to go.

Andrew's 2 and a half hour sketch..still wet.

Then we all had a go, this time painting a teenage boy. Mine's nearly done.

The finished portrait. I was really pleased with it because Andy encouraged me to keep working on it to refine the facial features but keeping the background and shirt loose and lively.
